Version 2.5 released.

Journal Entry: Thu Apr 17, 2008, 10:51 AM
Version 2.5 has been released. You can download the latest release at ([link]) or the project home page of ([link]). Here are the details:
In the edit window, preview and main display update can be
disabled/enabled by clicking on the preview image.

Individual transform can be disabled/enabled with a
checkbox on the "Xform" tab, or by double-clicking
the corresponding triangle. Disabling a transform
as the same effect as deleting it temporarily.
At least one transform must be enabled. The program
wont let disabling the last enabled transform.

The format of the setting file has been adapted
for more than 64 variations.

The wiki page [link]
is loaded at launch time and used as a reference to know
which variation is compatible with the sheep server.

In the "variations" tab of the "options" panel, the
variations are sorted alphabetically and the group
number is indicated, to find them easier in the
hierarchical menu.

In addition, I've released a new set of plugins
with 9 variations added, in order to be compatible
with the current version of flam3. The plugin
archive can be downloaded from the projet home page.
The 41 variations are :

new arch

new blade

circlize
new conic
cross

Can I pick your brains please? I have Apo-J running ok on an intel iMac, and I have installed the plugins in a folder as (I thought) described in the instructions, but neither I nor Apo-J can find them! thanks very much for any advice!

In Apo 2.07 one may resize the preview in the editor window. I have found this very useful. Will this be a feature as well? I hope you will add it to the list.

Thank you once again, this work is a wonderful gift!

I found a program called "combine.exe" that will do it ([link]). I launch a command box (or DOS box as I think of it) in the folder with all my flame files and flame packs in it and then type in "combine all.txt *.flame". When the process finishes, I rename all.txt to all.flame and have a huge flame pack that Apo reads with no problem. And don't feel like you are a bother picking my brain. There is not much there to pick and what is there is best shared while I still have it. :)

Your idea about a journal piece is a good idea. I have several little free utilities that I could mention including my batch-render program, my batch-embed program, the combine utility, jhead, some batch editing/renaming utilities, and some of the tools in ImageMagick.

Which program will combine them? Sheesh, I hate to be picking your brains all the time, but I find it so frustrating when I realise I have modified a flame out of all recognition to the original and then forgot to save the mod. Grrrr! I think it would be a very good idea and most useful if you made a journal out of this technique. So many people lose their params by not saving them as they go along.
Or you could just send ME detailed instructions.....

I gathered up all of my flame files from everywhere I could find them. I then used a free program to combine them all into one huge flame pack and ran a batch render script on them with a set size of 128x80. It took 2-3 seconds per image. This gave me the flames and the thumbnails all in one folder. I then ran my new little utility to load all the parameters into the 6,400 or so thumbnails. Took about 20 minutes. Now I can drag a thumbnail onto the Apo-J app and it automatically launches the image parameters!

It sounds like it would be worthwhile just for the embed feature. Do you know how many jpg's I have, with no idea of how I created them or where their params are?!

It is basically 2.07, but does have some advantages over 2.07. You can, for example, drag and drop a flame onto it. You can also set an option to embed the parameters into the rendered image and "open" those rendered images back into Apo-J. It also doesn't have the 27-plugin limit that Apo 2.07 has. I'm sure other enhancements will be included as well.

Thank you Daniel for thinking of this. I have been following the info on the Apo listserve, but haven't gotten into it yet to work with it.

Daniel, is this a whole new version of apo or one that will run in Mac and Linux as well? Silly question, probably, but I have 4 versions of apo and wondered if this one is different.
